VEX AI Competition Team

The VEX AI competition 2021-2022 season is starting.

About the VEX AI Competition:

2020-2021 season was the pilot season for VEX AI competition. More information can be found here: https://www.vexrobotics.com/v5/competition/vex-ai

The competition is fully autonomous, meaning that the robot must operate with no input from the humans. The game has 2 sections, first a short session of isolated movement where the robots are limited to half of the field to eliminate interaction between robots. During this session the positions of objects is known and pre-programmed routines can do well.

The second is the interaction period, here the robots can run the full field and interact. The only way to be successful in this portion is for the robot to be aware of its environment and make decisions about what tasks to undertake. This is where AI becomes essential.  We use cameras to observe the field and AI to identify objects and make decisions about game play.

About the Rolling Robots Team

In 2020-2021, the VEX AI competition is an invitation only program. Rolling Robots was selected to participate.

The season was completed with a world championship in Dallas Texas. Team 7700R was the winner of the 2021 VEX AI World Championship Think Award for best code and use of sensors.

The team is made up of students from different schools and different parts of Southern California.  We strive to apply the most brain power to this project. We select the best students and find the best mentors to assist.  By doing so we create a learning environment where students can go beyond the classroom and explore cutting edge technologies.

The 2021 - 2022 team is expected to be about 10 students of High School level.
